Nintendo games Super Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing: New Horizons have been made to run natively on the third-generation Apple TV 4K through TVPort, an open-source project by Reddit user FloatingFalafel. The project was built with Claude Opus 5.5, according to the creator, and continues a series of game ports developed with AI assistance.

TVPort is a fork of the nxnative toolkit, which is used with a Mac to recompile Switch and Switch 2 games for Apple TV. FloatingFalafel says Super Mario Odyssey runs at 60 frames per second, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons runs at 30. Other games have not yet been tested, though the creator has invited users to try the software with additional titles.

The project does not include game files. Users must provide files from their own cartridges, which requires a modified Nintendo Switch. More demanding games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, may be limited on the third-generation Apple TV 4K by thermal throttling. The fourth-generation model, scheduled to launch on November 13, could run games that the previous generation cannot.

The project may also face challenges from Nintendo, which has objected to unofficial ways of playing its games. In 2024, the company sued the Yuzu emulator team; the case ended in a $2.4 million settlement and the emulator’s shutdown.
