Apple could account for nearly three in ten foldable smartphones shipped worldwide in 2027, according to a forecast from research firm TrendForce. The firm expects Apple’s share to climb from 24.8% in 2026 to 29.8% the following year.

Samsung is forecast to remain in first place, though its share is projected to decline from 35.1% in 2026 to 31.9% in 2027. Huawei is expected to rank third, with its share falling from 24.8% to 21.3%.

TrendForce estimates that about five million iPhone Duo units will ship in 2026. Overall foldable smartphone shipments are forecast to grow by just 0.5% that year.

Early feedback on the iPhone Duo has been mixed. Users have praised its split-screen features and the viewing experience when unfolded, while some apps reportedly show black borders or do not fill the display. Reports of damaged screens and high repair estimates have also raised concerns about ownership costs.

TrendForce sees Apple’s integration of its chips, operating system and developer ecosystem as an advantage in refining the foldable experience. The firm expects improvements in app compatibility and hardware reliability to help make multitasking efficiency a more prominent area of competition.
