Apple could update three iPad models during the first half of 2027, according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The lineup is expected to include a new entry-level iPad, an iPad Air with an OLED display and an iPad Pro equipped with a vapor chamber for improved cooling.
Gurman reportedly does not expect Apple to launch any new iPads during the second half of 2027. The plans follow the launch of the iPad mini (2026), which introduced an OLED screen and the A20 Pro chip.
The current entry-level iPad arrived in March 2025 with an A16 chip and 6GB of RAM, specifications that do not support Apple Intelligence. Its successor is expected to use the A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, Apple's N1 networking chip with Wi-Fi 7 support and the C1X modem for sub-6GHz 5G on cellular models. These details were reportedly found in Apple's own code.
The iPad Air 11 and iPad Air 13, both released in March 2026 with the M4 chip and 12GB of RAM, currently use 60Hz LCD panels. Their successors are expected to move to OLED displays. A previous report said Samsung Display would supply the panels, although the next model's chipset has not been confirmed. The M5 has been suggested as a possibility, but that remains speculation.
The current 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models have been available since October 2025 and use Apple's M5 chip. A vapor chamber in the next generation could help the tablets maintain high performance for longer. The same source previously linked the 2027 iPad Pro to both a vapor chamber and the M6 chip, which Apple has since introduced in the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac.
