Apple’s iPhone X went on sale on November 3, 2017, nine years ago today. The device marked the iPhone’s 10th anniversary and introduced an all-screen OLED display, gesture navigation and Face ID—features that influenced later flagship models.
Announced on September 12, 2017, the iPhone X used its TrueDepth camera system for Face ID, replacing Touch ID on the device. It ran on Apple’s A11 Bionic chip and was the company’s first iPhone to start at $999.
Apple classified the iPhone X as vintage in 2024. Touch ID has since returned to iPhones with the iPhone Duo, while Apple is expected to introduce a redesigned model for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in late 2027.
