According to a new forecast from market intelligence firm TrendForce, Apple's upcoming OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected to ship between 1.2 million and 1.5 million units in 2027. Announced on Wednesday, this new lineup marks the first time Apple has integrated a tandem OLED touchscreen into its professional laptops. Pricing begins at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch version, with pre-orders currently open ahead of the official launch scheduled for Friday, November 6.

TrendForce notes that while Apple will sell these OLED models alongside its existing mini-LED MacBook Pro lineup, the premium starting price may temper near-term replacement demand. Despite this potential constraint, the firm anticipates that Apple's entry into the sector will accelerate the broader market landscape, which has historically been driven primarily by Windows brands such as Lenovo, HP, and ASUS.

The overall laptop market has experienced contraction for two consecutive years, yet TrendForce forecasts a significant shift in the OLED segment. Shipments of OLED laptops are projected to grow nearly 40% year-over-year in 2026, followed by another increase of more than 40% in 2027 as brands increasingly prioritize OLED models in their product roadmaps.

Samsung Display has been identified as the exclusive panel supplier for the new MacBook Pro. The company has designated Phase 1 of its G8.6 A6 production line at its Asan campus in South Korea as a dedicated facility for Apple, making this device the first to enter mass production on Samsung's G8.6 fine metal mask (FMM) OLED line. TrendForce highlights that the display's tandem OLED architecture and 254 PPI pixel density impose exceptionally demanding production requirements regarding material costs and manufacturing yields.

While rival panel makers are conducting qualification programs, TrendForce believes the cost of meeting Apple's specifications and Samsung Display's established position present considerable barriers to entry. Consequently, competitors such as LG Display, BOE, and TCL CSOT are reportedly directing their efforts toward the supply chain for an OLED MacBook Air, which is not expected to debut until at least 2028.
