The company says images in iCloud Photos and files in iCloud Drive shared using the “Anyone with the link” option will be made accessible to Apple for a content check.

Apple has not specified what it considers harmful content. Its policy says the company may move, refuse, modify, remove or delete content at any time. It may also restrict or disable an Apple Account, prevent a new account from being created with the associated email address or phone number, or involve law enforcement if necessary.

In iCloud, users can either send a copy of a file directly or share a link that lets someone download it. Link sharing can be limited to selected people or set to “Anyone with the link”; Apple says only the latter option will be subject to review. The company also says content made available to anyone is no longer end-to-end encrypted, even with Advanced Data Protection enabled.

Apple has not said whether links created before the 27.3 updates will be checked. The four updates are currently available to developers for beta testing, with a public release planned for December.
