Live Rewind and Siri Recap are arriving on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 through the first watchOS 27.3 developer beta. The microphone-based Audio Intelligence tools were announced alongside the watches in September, while Sound Recognition and Shazam-based Music Recognition were available from launch.
Live Rewind displays a text snippet of what was said during the previous 15 seconds when a user double-presses the Digital Crown. The snippet can be sent to Siri or saved in the Siri app. If neither action is taken, it disappears about 30 seconds after the display dims. Activating the feature triggers an audible chime, even when the watch is in silent mode or connected to headphones, and shows a full-screen animation and microphone indicator.
Siri Recap takes notes on conversations and creates a title, brief summary and key points in the Siri app’s Recaps tab. It does not provide a full transcript or identify individual speakers. Apple says the feature is designed to omit sensitive details, including financial information and government-assigned identifiers. Recaps are deleted after seven days unless saved, and can also be exported to Notes or Journal. Users can schedule them by time and location or switch them on and off in Control Center.
Apple says the features do not create audio recordings. Audio is processed in a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave on the S11 chip and paired iPhone. Live Rewind is processed on the device, while Siri Recap sends a condensed conversation transcript to Private Cloud Compute to generate its summary.
Both features are opt-in and require a Series 12 or Ultra 4 paired with an iPhone 16 or newer, excluding the iPhone 16e, with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. They currently work only in English and are unavailable to users under 13. They will not initially launch in the EU, where Siri AI is not available. Apple is expected to release a public beta before the features become available more broadly.
