Three months into using the Galaxy Z Fold 8, a reviewer says the phone’s cameras remain its biggest drawback. The two 50-megapixel sensors are adequate for everyday tasks, but have not met expectations for a premium foldable.

The reviewer says they use the cameras for lower-stakes tasks such as photographing meals for a nutrition app and scanning documents, but often reach for another phone to take other pictures. They cite limited zoom, with image quality dropping sharply beyond 2x, and difficulty framing shots because the phone’s short design can leave a finger visible at the bottom of an image.

Photos from the main camera are described as acceptable, and the reviewer says they like the saturated colors. However, the phone’s lack of a third camera lens adds to the disappointment, particularly given that foldable cameras have generally lagged behind those on conventional smartphones.

Rumors cited in the report suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 9 may retain the current camera sensors: a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide. The Fold 9 Ultra could receive a new main sensor, but is not expected to bring major hardware changes, according to those claims.

If Samsung does not upgrade the sensors, the reviewer argues that it should at least change the camera layout. They say the current positioning makes it easy to catch a finger in a shot and can require repeated grip adjustments. A different layout could also address concerns around the phone wobbling on a table and Qi2 support.
