A series of updates released today for the Gemini application introduces a refreshed visual design across all Android devices while significantly upgrading file generation features. The new interface applies a heavy blur effect to the search bar, creating a translucent perimeter around the pill-shaped element rather than a solid shape. This updated aesthetic, characterized by tiny specks and swirls of color that make boundaries harder to distinguish during animations, was initially exclusive to phones with Gemini Intelligence, such as the Pixel 11, but is now available on other devices. Users who do not immediately see the changes are advised to force stop the Google app to trigger the update.
Beyond visual changes, the app now enables users to generate, preview, and edit files directly within chat conversations. Gemini can create text documents, presentations, or spreadsheets based on specific topics, allowing for inline viewing and editing. Users can highlight sections to make adjustments or ask the AI to refine the tone and structure before exporting the content. For slide decks, the tool allows for the creation of outlines and content that can be previewed in the chat, edited directly, or opened in Google Slides and downloaded as PPTX or PDF files.
The update also supports building structured trackers, tables, and data models from prompts, which can be previewed in Gemini and opened directly in Google Sheets. Additionally, users can draft PDFs, Google Docs, LaTeX, Markdown, or TXT files, making manual or prompted edits inline on the web or in a full-screen view before uploading them to Drive. While PDF preview and editing are supported on both gemini.google.com and mobile apps, functionality for Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Markdown, TXT files, and code remains exclusive to the web version. These file creation and editing features are now live for users in all languages where the Gemini app is available.
