Google Photos is rolling out a setting that lets users disable the background music the app adds to Memories. When switched off, the change applies to all Memories, including the end-of-year recap.

The toggle is located under Photos settings > Preferences > Memories, where it appears as “Background music.” Google says the setting is being introduced across platforms. It was not visible in version 7.99 on Android at the time of the report, but the company said it was on its way to the app.

Turning off the option prevents added music from playing, but does not mute videos included in a Memory: their original audio remains available. Google has also updated the selection of background tracks for users who choose to keep the feature enabled.
