Google is beginning to replace the icons for its Contacts, Messages and Phone apps with a redesigned visual style. The update follows earlier redesigns for Workspace and Pixel applications and is expected to reach users through the Play Store over the coming weeks.

The new icons retain the familiar overall shapes of Google’s communication apps, while introducing updated curvature and coloring. Google says the changes make the icons look sharper and clearer on home screens, with subtle gradients and more easily readable edges.

The redesign is already available with the latest Google Messages beta. Google has emphasized that the update is purely visual and does not change how any of the three apps work.

The refreshed icons are also expected to appear on contacts.google.com and messages.google.com/web.
