Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak recently shared a video via Apple TV detailing how Zach Cregger, the director of Resident Evil, integrates his iPhone into his filmmaking workflow. Cregger explained that he utilizes the device alongside the Cadrage application to meticulously plan filming sequences in advance. This process allows him to determine specific shots, select appropriate lenses for each scene, and define exactly what elements will appear within every frame.
Once these digital storyboards are created, Cregger prints out the images to provide his crew with clear visual instructions on how to execute the scenes. He noted that this method was employed for his previous films, Weapons and Barbarian, both of which he wrote and directed. According to Cregger, every single scene in those movies was pre-planned using these photographic references.
Joswiak commented on the director's approach, stating via social media on November 4, 2026, that while he cannot match Cregger's affinity for fear, he shares his enthusiasm for using the iPhone in the creative process. Emphasizing the accessibility of modern tools, Cregger remarked that everyone has the capability to make a movie with what is already in their pocket. The film Resident Evil is currently available for rental or purchase through the Apple TV app.
