Samsung is taking aim at Apple after reports that some early iPhone Duo buyers experienced screens that cracked and stopped working in the center. The company is using the issue, described as “crackgate,” to promote its Galaxy Z Fold 8 in a series of social media advertisements.
The reported failures have affected the display panel around the hinge, with the similar nature of the incidents raising questions about a possible hinge-related design or material problem. Apple is replacing affected devices, according to the available information.
In an advertisement shared by Samsung Canada on Instagram, the company says that “folding is nothing new to us” and adds that it knows “a thing or eight.” The message ends with a direct invitation: “Switch to Galaxy Z Fold8.” The accompanying image depicts the iPhone Duo’s reported screen damage.
Samsung Malaysia adopted a similarly mocking tone, writing: “Feeling a little FOMO seeing all this talk about durability… oops, we’ve just been busy folding and getting on with our day.” Samsung Australia referred to the issue in a post about “how life sounds when your screen doesn’t break when opening your phone.”
A separate post from Samsung Saudi Arabia showed the reported iPhone Duo crack on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 before revealing that the damage was only part of a wallpaper. The campaign highlights Samsung’s experience with foldable phones while portraying Apple’s reported display failures as a weakness in its first foldable hardware.
