Apple’s new HomeView smart home hub does not include an App Store, but it can still display certain third-party audio and video apps through CarPlay support. Compatible apps can be mirrored automatically from a nearby iPhone paired with the device, without requiring changes to the apps themselves.

A video shared on Mastodon by Broadcasts developer Steve Troughton-Smith demonstrated Spotify running on a virtualized HomeView. The example shows how the streaming app can be made available on the hub despite not being installed through a dedicated HomeView app store.

HomeView includes a selection of Apple applications, including Alarms, Calendar, FaceTime, Find My, Home, Intercom, Messages, Music, Podcasts, Reminders, Safari, Settings, Timers, Weather and World Clock.

CarPlay-enabled apps available from a paired iPhone include Apple Music Classical, Apple News, Apple TV, Audiobooks and supported third-party audio and video apps such as Spotify.

HomeView is available to pre-order and is scheduled to launch on Friday, November 13.
