While Digi has established itself as a leading operator in Spain through an aggressive pricing strategy in both fiber and mobile sectors, the company is now shifting focus toward improving service quality and variety. Acknowledging that low prices alone are insufficient given challenges such as longer repair times and lagging extra services like Digi TV, the Romanian operator is expanding its roaming options outside the European Union.
Digi has officially announced the inclusion of Algeria in its list of destinations for non-EU roaming. Although this country does not benefit from the 'Roaming Like at Home' agreement which guarantees free usage within the EU, the addition provides a vital option for travelers needing to stay connected with family and friends. The specific tariffs for using a Digi line in Algeria are set as follows: calls to Spain, the EU, or the visited country cost 0.96 euros per minute, while calls to other destinations are 1.20 euros per minute. Incoming calls are charged at 0.47 euros per minute, sending an SMS costs 0.08 euros, and internet connectivity is priced at 9 euros per GB.
Simultaneously, Digi has improved its service offering for Australia. While the country was already available on Digi's list of destinations, the operator has now added voice services to the package. Under the new rates for Australia, calling Spain or the visited country costs 0.18 euros per minute, and calls to other destinations are 0.50 euros per minute. Receiving calls is charged at 0.0255 euros per minute, with internet access available at 1.5360 euros per GB.
Although Algeria and Australia may not be the most popular mass-market travel destinations, this policy shift signals a strategic move by Digi to compete on factors beyond just price. While travel eSIMs often remain the most economical choice for non-EU roaming, these updates ensure that Digi customers have reliable service options available in case of emergencies while abroad.
