The Honor Magic9 Pro Max has arrived for review ahead of its global debut, with a camera system developed in partnership with German camera maker ARRI. A full review is still to come; for now, the first look covers the phone’s design, in-box accessories and video features.
The review unit is the Moss Green model. The box includes a green-tinted transparent silicone case, a 100W charger and a USB cable. The charger uses a USB-A port rather than USB-C.
Honor has moved away from the more understated design of its predecessor. The Magic9 Pro Max has a single-piece metal chassis, a glass section on the rear for wireless charging and a design inspired by ARRI movie cameras. It also has a customizable AI Button on the left side and a dedicated camera control key that supports touch and press input.
ARRI’s contribution extends beyond the phone’s camera hardware. The Magic9 Pro Max includes the company’s Image Science color pipeline, ARRI Looks, a LogC3 curve and Wide Gamut 3 10-bit color, with APV 4:2:2 chroma sampling. Log recording gives users more scope to adjust color, and the phone can display a selected LUT in the camera app while recording to preview the intended look.
The review team has also shared sample photos and videos taken at Honor’s launch event in Los Angeles, including images from the phone’s pair of 200-megapixel cameras in bright and low-light conditions.
