Apple’s titanium Apple Watch Series 12 offers a polished metal finish and a sapphire front crystal, positioning it between the more affordable aluminum model and the pricier ceramic version. It starts at $699, compared with $399 for aluminum, and comes in Natural and Radiant Gold. Apple also offers designer Hermès editions.

The sapphire crystal is highly resistant to scratches. The aluminum Series 12 uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, replacing the Ion-X glass found on earlier generations. Titanium is heavier than aluminum, however, which may make aluminum a better fit for people who prioritize a lightweight watch for workouts or sleep tracking.

Titanium models include cellular connectivity as standard. Aluminum buyers can choose between GPS and GPS plus Cellular, so the $300 starting-price gap covers more than the case and front glass. For customers who already plan to buy a cellular model, the added cost of choosing titanium is smaller.

The polished finish gives titanium a more traditional, dressy appearance and works particularly well with premium bands such as Apple’s Link Bracelet and Milanese Loop. It can also be paired with rubber or woven bands, making it an option for everyday wear and workouts. Its versatility may be a draw for people who wear their watch in both casual and formal settings.

The titanium model has the same chip, sensors, display technology and battery life as the aluminum and ceramic versions. Paying more does not add features. Ceramic is also available as a premium alternative, with Pearl White and Night Blue cases and a sapphire front crystal. Titanium is lighter and has a metallic look that may suit metal bracelets, while ceramic offers a more distinctive appearance.

For most buyers, the extra cost may be difficult to justify. Titanium is most worth considering if its polished finish and sapphire crystal are priorities, particularly for someone already intending to buy a cellular Apple Watch. A discounted titanium Series 10 or Series 11 could also be an option for buyers mainly seeking those qualities.

The titanium Series 12 starts just $100 below the Apple Watch Ultra 4. Spending that extra amount gets the Ultra’s longer battery life and more rugged design. The Series 12 may be the better fit for someone who wants a slimmer premium watch with a more traditional appearance.
