Microsoft is ending support for backing up Microsoft Authenticator’s one-time-password accounts through a personal Microsoft account on Android. Starting in January 2027, users will need to enable the app in Google One’s backup settings instead.

Microsoft outlined the change on a support page. Authenticator generates one-time codes used to sign in to online accounts, and its Android backups will now be handled through Google One.

The shift brings Android in line with Authenticator’s existing approach on iOS, where iCloud Backup is used to save one-time passwords and accounts.
